Position Overview

The Federal Work Study Program (FWS) is a federally-funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part-time employment for eligible students to help with educational and living expenses. City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) offers positions in various academic and administrative departments, including libraries, laboratories, and student centers.

Primary Objective

The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in relevant departments. Wages earned can be used towards educational and living expenses.

Responsibilities
  • Assist students in developing reading skills such as word recognition, vocabulary comprehension, test-taking strategies, and note-taking.
  • Engage with students one-on-one or in small groups for academic support.
  • Answer student inquiries and schedule tutoring appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned under the supervision of the Director of Academic Support Services.
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 semester hours of classes.
  • Pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate.
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA (waived for first-semester students).
  • Be in good academic standing with no restrictions.
  • Not currently employed full or part-time by CCC.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or actively pursuing a GED.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 semester hours of classes.
  • Approved for Federal Work Study through financial aid.
  • Pass the CCC hiring process, including background check and drug screening if required.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong math and counting skills.
  • Promote a positive role model and adhere to CCC standards.
