Job description

We don’t just build technology—; from next-gen aerospace to cutting-edge defense systems, we tackle the toughest, mission-critical challenges that keep people safe and push the limits of innovation. This is where problem-solvers, innovators, and big thinkers thrive. Quest Defense Systems & Solutions is seeking Hardware Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineers to support avionics display programs. Multiple active programs require hardware V&V support, including a cockpit display program executing a display processor refresh complicated by component obsolescence, and a new display/HUD program in early spool-up. The work centers on hardware qualification and requirements-based verification of display processors and display units (LRUs) including both night-vision-compatible (NVIS) and non-NVIS configurations — in an environment with schedules driven by obsolescence, legacy display supply constraints, and a push to accelerate units to production and customer delivery. The Engineer will plan and execute verification and qualification activities within the DO-254 and DO-160 frameworks alongside a talented, multi-site team of design, systems, and software engineers. This program requires hybrid work in Phoenix, AZ. Relocation assistance may be provided. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required.

KeyResponsibilities:
  • Develop requirements-based hardware verification plans, test procedures, and test cases
  • Execute hardware V&V and qualification testing of display processors, display units, HUD hardware, or printed board assemblies (PBAs) at the board and LRU level
  • Perform verification of NVIS-compatible and non-NVIS display configurations, including backlight brightness limiting, luminance/optical performance, and display I/O and video interfaces
  • Support environmental and EMI/EMC qualification testing per RTCA DO-160
  • Perform delta-qualification and re-verification of hardware modified for component obsolescence (e.g., refreshed display processors, replacement parts on legacy displays)
  • Conduct troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis of hardware issues found during verification, qualification, and production
  • Generate verification results, test reports, and certification artifacts supporting DO-254 compliance and program milestones
  • Collaborate with hardware design, systems, and software engineers to close out requirements verification and support hardware/software integration
  • Support production flow and factory issues related to legacy display supply and test
  • Communicate status, risks, and schedule impacts effectively to technical leads and program leadership; manage time to deliver quality artifacts on an accelerated timeline
Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in Hardware V&V / test engineering in aerospace or avionics (board- and LRU-level)
  • Requirements-based verification and test procedure development
  • Working knowledge of DO-254 (Design Assurance for Airborne Electronic Hardware)
  • Working knowledge of RTCA DO-160 qualification/environmental test methods
  • Strong troubleshooting, debug, and root-cause analysis skills with standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, power supplies)
  • Solid understanding of digital and analog circuit fundamentals, signal integrity, and hardware test methodologies
  • Ability to read schematics and work from hardware requirements and design specifications
  • Self-motivated with the initiative to engage a distributed, multi-site team and drive tasks to closure
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (export control / ITAR)
Preferred / Differentiating Skills:
  • Avionics display experience: display processors, LCD/legacy display units, or Head-Up Displays (HUD)
  • NVIS compatibility testing and requirements (e.g., MIL-STD-3009 / MIL-L-85762A), including backlight/luminance control verification
  • Photometric and optical measurement of displays (luminance, chromaticity, contrast)
  • Experience with obsolescence-driven redesign, delta-qual, and part substitution/requalification
  • Product/LRU and PBA design verification and qualification experience
  • Familiarity with DO-178 and hardware/software integration testing
  • Experience in adoption and/or integration of emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, digital assistants) into day-to-day operations for continuous improvement.
Technologies & Tools:
  • DO-254 compliance and verification lifecycle
  • RTCA DO-160 test methods
  • DOORS (or similar requirements management tool)
  • Requirements-based testing and traceability
  • Avionics video, optical, and I/O interfaces (e.g., ARINC 818, ARINC 429, high-speed serial) a plus NVIS measurement/test equipment and photometers a plus
  • Standard electronics lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators)
  • Mathcad, LTspice, Microsoft Excel (analysis and data reduction)
  • Change tracking (JIRA or similar)
  • Safety-critical design and certification awareness
