Job summary

DoorDash Labs, an independent team within DoorDash, seeks a Hardware Validation Engineer to verify Dot, our next‑gen autonomous delivery robot. You will develop and execute test campaigns ensuring performance, safety, and regulatory goals.

You will join the V&V team based in Oakland, with travel to test sites in CA, AZ, and MI. Expect collaboration across DevOps, Software, Firmware, Controls, AI and Ops, plus rigorous testing and documentation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industry experience in automotive or mechatronics testing & validation at the system level.
  • Hands‑on experience with CAN bus & Ethernet data logging and analysis tools.
  • Experience with environmental testing such as thermal, shock, and IP testing.
  • Track record of managing complex, cross‑functional projects and programs.
  • Working understanding of vehicle mechanicals and electronics.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle perception systems.

DoorDash Labs is an independent team within DoorDash. We are working on building autonomous delivery robots from the ground-up and other automation solutions as part of DoorDash's core delivery hardware. About the Role

We’re seeking a highly motivated Hardware Validation Engineer to verify and validate the system requirements for Dot, our next-generation autonomous delivery robot. In this role, you will develop and execute test campaigns to ensure our delivery hardware meets performance, safety, and regulatory goals.

You will join our V&V team based in Oakland. This role requires occasional travel to test sites in California, Arizona, and Michigan.

  • B.S., M.S., or PhD. in engineering, e.g. robotics, mechanical, electrical or computer science

Compensation

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market‑dependent and may be modified in the future.

In addition to base salary, the compensation for this role includes opportunities for equity grants.

See below for paid time off details:

  • For salaried roles: flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year.
  • For hourly roles: vacation accrued at about 1 hour for every 25.97 hours worked (e.g. about 6.7 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 3.4 hours/month if working 20 hours/week), and paid sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (e.g. about 5.8 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 2.9 hours/month).

The national base pay range for this position within the United States, including Illinois and Colorado.

$139,400 - $205,000 USD
