Job description

Hardware Test & Validation Engineer

ARC is a venture-backed, rapid-growth enterprise technology company. Since launching in late 2021 to serve frontline workers, ARC has become a market-leading solution and trusted partner to some of the world’s largest enterprises, including Walmart, lululemon, a top 3 global airline, and several top 3 global leaders in pharmaceutical distribution and logistics. ARC was born out of ChargeItSpot, the consumer-facing technology company that pioneered phone charging solutions starting in 2012.

ARC is a device management solution integrated with smart lockers, designed to store, secure, and charge company-owned handheld devices (i.e., by Zebra, Honeywell, etc.) that frontline workers use to do their jobs and perform their core job functions (e.g., for package scanning, inventory lookup, task management, mobile point of sale, etc.).

Clients turn to ARC because they find that it is extremely difficult to manage and maintain their investment in enterprise mobile devices post-purchase. There is significant waste from legacy, manual processes. Devices frequently go missing (25% annually), stop working, or run out of power, costing payroll time, money, and productivity. ARC virtually eliminates these issues, ensuring that devices are functional, charged and accounted for, all while improving productivity and experience for the teams on the ground.

Market demand for ARC has been overwhelming, and the company has been growing rapidly. Device management has been a huge unmet need for decades within a problem space that is deceptively nuanced, complex and costly. ARC is uniquely positioned to solve these problems given its decade of relevant technical expertise with ChargeItSpot phone‑charging lockers, our legacy mobile device product. ARC builds upon ChargeItSpot’s competencies, carrying forward IP (protected by 8 patents and counting), deep technical know‑how, and real‑world experience.

ARC's Mission

Minimize Device Waste. Maximize Worker Productivity. Make Life Easier.

ARC's Vision

Be the unrivaled leader in physical device management. With more than 25,000 ARC units deployed by 2030, ARC will simplify life for more than 1,000,000 workers every day.

About the Team

At ARC, we surround ourselves with independent thinkers who are detail‑oriented, and customer‑obsessed. Our clients have routinely called us “the most talented team they’ve ever worked with.” We value determination, resourcefulness, imagination, and follow‑through. We want people who are ready to get things done.

Our Core Values

Our focus is fierce, but it’s not all hard work. We take time to get to know each other through a daily game of Jeopardy, meals together, and nights out for karaoke. We operate a hybrid work model, with most team members working in the office a couple of days a week, and the rest remotely.

As a Hardware Test & Validation Engineer | ARC, you will play a critical role in device compatibility testing, qualification, and burn‑in testing to validate new firmware and hardware before it goes to the field. You’ll run structured test procedures, capture results in Jira and reports, troubleshoot issues using lab tools, and produce clear SOPs/memos that enable Ops and other teams to support devices in production.

Responsibilities
  • Execute daily device compatibility testing across a wide range of enterprise handheld devices
  • Perform device qualification and burn‑in testing using defined procedures; document pass/fail results and escalate anomalies.
  • Validate new firmware and new hardware releases prior to field deployment confirm functional and performance requirements are met.
  • Create and manage Jira tickets
  • Troubleshoot hardware and charging issues using lab tools (DMM, bench supply, USB analyzers; oscilloscope as needed).
  • Research new devices (specs, charging behavior, accessories) to determine likelihood of ARC compatibility.
  • Write and maintain SOPs, support memos, and test procedures to enable Ops/Support to consistently validate and support devices in the field.
  • Keep the test lab operationally ready by maintaining supplies, managing device/cable stock, and preparing test setups for daily compatibility testing and release validation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 0–3 years experience in hardware testing, lab work, validation, or electronics troubleshooting (internships count).
  • Comfortable reading datasheets and schematics; familiarity with PCBs and common electrical concepts.
  • Hands‑on ability with lab tools: multimeter, bench power supply, USB analyzers, oscilloscope.
  • Basic hands‑on skills: soldering and wiring for simple rework/debug setups
  • You are a strong communicator, attentive listener, and compelling explainer with the ability to focus on a problem, ask the right questions, and gain expertise quickly.
  • Self‑motivated and organized, you must be able to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A strong bias for action and a "get it done" attitude. You are never satisfied with the status quo.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience validating firmware (reading logs, regression testing).
  • Experience with USB charging standards, DC power management circuitry, and related testing methodologies.
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and embedded systems for quick debug instrumentation.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software
  • Experience working at the intersection of hardware and software is a big plus.
  • Experience working at a startup is a plus
Location

We are headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. In order to successfully manage both hardware and software, this role is expected to be full time in the office. Some remote work is possible depending on projects. You must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • Health Care FSA
  • 401k plan with matching company contributions
  • Paid time off
