Job summary

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years in system-level development for server/computer/network domains.
  • Experience with 48V and 12V VRM DC-DC designs and PoL regulation.
  • Experience with BMC and DC-SCM designs.
  • Experience with 100G+ Ethernet and high-speed SerDes, PCIe Gen5/6, SPI/I2C/UART/USB.
  • Familiar with selecting critical components.
  • Hands-on board design with schematic capture and Allegro.
  • Lab equipment experience: real-time scope, logic analyzer, PCIe exerciser.
  • Lab bring-up and design validation track record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong teamwork.
  • Familiarity with OCP ORV3 HPR, VHDC, IEC standards a plus.
  • Role requires both design and lab work.

Responsibilities

  • Full ownership of board design, specifications, schematic capture and reliability test plans for AI compute boards.
  • Design and capture schematic and coordinate release of Gerber files with layout.
  • Collaborate with thermal, mechanical, SIPI, ASIC, platform software and diagnostic teams.

What MatX Is Building

MatX is on a mission to be the compute platform for AGI. We are developing vertically integrated full-stack solutions from silicon to systems including hardware and software to train and run the largest ML workloads for AGI.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Hardware Systems Engineer to join our Hardware Systems team. In this role, you will take full ownership of defining, designing, and validating compute trays, boards, and interconnects for our rack-scale AI data center platform. You will work across control plane, data plane, and management plane functionality, playing a pivotal role in driving power efficiency, scalability, reliability, and system performance at scale

What You’ll Do Here:
  • Full ownership of board design, specifications, schematic design, verification and reliability test plan for our AI compute boards

  • Design and capture schematic and work with layout engineers to release Gerber files

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as thermal, mechanical, SIPI, ASIC, platform software and manufacturing diagnostic software teams.

  • Bring up boards and debug hardware issues in the lab

  • Support platform and manufacturing tests

  • Collaborate with JDM

Who You Are:
  • At least 10 years of experience in system-level development, preferably within the server, computer, or network industries.

  • Proficient in DC/DC PoL and multi phase VRM designs and verifications with 48V and 12V bus. Experience with high-power AI server design is desirable.

  • Experience with BMC and DC-SCM designs

  • Experience with 100G+ Ethernet and high-speed SerDes interfaces, PCIe Gen5/6, as well as SPI, I2C, UART, USB

  • Familiar with criteria of critical components selection

  • Hands-on experience with board design using schematic capture tools and Allegro

  • Hands on experience on lab equipment such as real time scope, logic analyzer, PCIe exerciser and analyzer.

  • Demonstrated ability in lab bring-up and design validation

  • Proven track record of delivering shipped products

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent team player

  • Familiarity with OCP ORV3 HPR, VHDC, and IEC standards is a plus

  • This position requires both design work and lab work

Compensation

The US base salary for this full-time position is determined based on a variety of factors including role, experience, location, job-related skills, and relevant education and training. Career length is only a guideline for compensation.

  • Early Career - $160,000 - $275,000 + equity

  • Mid Career - $175,000 - $400,000 + equity

  • Senior Career - $250,000 - $600,000 + equity
