Job summary

Wing, based in Palo Alto, CA, is seeking a Hardware Reliability Intern to join our Hardware Reliability team for a 12-week summer program. You will help design test fixtures, run DAQ tests, and analyze data to improve drone and ground hardware reliability.

The internship is hybrid, with in-person work in Palo Alto and remote components. Candidates are current students pursuing a degree in engineering or CS with hands-on lab experience and Python proficiency.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering or CS.
• Proficient in Python for instrument control or data analysis.
• Strong fundamentals in electrical harness and electromechanical testing.
• Hands-on lab experience and test plan execution.

Responsibilities

• Design test fixtures to stress, validate, and characterize subsystems.
• Select, build, and maintain DAQ systems and automated test scripts.
• Plan and execute testing for propulsion, camera, comms and power delivery systems.
• Help evaluate field failures and manufacturing issues through analysis and DOE.
• Collect and analyze field & test data for root cause analysis.
• Assess failure modes and create FMEAs to influence design improvements.
• Produce procedures to reliably execute test plans.

About the Program

Join Wing's 12-week paid summer internship! This is a hybrid, in-person program based in Palo Alto, CA, with start dates in May or June. Eligible candidates must be a current student enrolled in a degree program and intend to return to the program after the completion of the summer internship.

About the Role

Wing is looking for a Hardware Reliability Intern to join our Hardware Reliability based in Palo Alto, CA. Our team evaluates the reliability and durability of aircraft hardware, develops new tests, and performs failure analysis to constantly improve the robustness and reliability of our drone and ground infrastructure.

In this role you will

• Design test fixtures to stress, validate, and characterize aircraft subsystems under various environmental conditions
• Select, build, and maintain data acquisition (DAQ) systems and automated test scripts
• Plan and execute testing for aircraft propulsion, camera, communications and power delivery systems
• Help evaluate field failures and manufacturing issues through analysis and DOE
• Collecting and analyze field & test data for root cause analysis or failure replication
• Assess failure modes and create FMEAs to influence potential design improvements
• Produce procedures to reliably execute test plans

What You’ll Need

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, graduating between December 2027 and August 2028
• Proficiency in Python or similar programming language for instrument control or data analysis
• Familiarity with power systems, electrical fundamentals, and test methodology for electromechanical systems
• Comfortable with hands-on work in a lab, such as hardware testing and failure inspection
• Able to construct and follow a detailed hardware test plan
• Familiarity with tools to acquire, log, and analyze data (e.g. temperature, force, current, voltage)
• Ability to work independently to investigate issues and communicate findings to cross-functional teams
• Experience debugging, troubleshooting, or investigating hardware failures
• Strong attention to detail for finding inconsistencies in data patterns and analyzing failed samples

The US base salary range for this internship position is the salary range below + benefits. Wing’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.

Salary Range: $120,000 USD - $126,000 USD
