Job summary

RTX is seeking a Hardware Program Quality Engineer (PQE) to support the Upper Tier Missile Defense portfolio at MA sites such as Woburn, Andover, Tewksbury, or Marlborough. The role emphasizes early defect prevention, reliability, and compliance with quality standards across the product lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has a STEM degree with 5+ years in hardware quality or design, experience with ERP/cPDM tools, and strong RCA capabilities. Some travel may be required as part of program activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in hardware quality or hardware design.
  • Experience creating/reading hardware drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with cPDM or similar data management systems.
  • Experience analyzing data, using metrics, and driving process improvements.
  • Experience in RCA and corrective/preventive action implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Establish partnerships to implement quality strategies with Engineering, IPTs, and Functions.
  • Evaluate designs, specs, testing plans, methods, and equipment for reliability and quality compliance.
  • Conduct engineering work product reviews (Peer Reviews, ECNs, Design Reviews) to eliminate defects.
  • Serve as Engineering Hardware Quality representative on ERB, CCB, ROMB, and MRB boards.
  • Evaluate design/manufacturing trade-offs to assess risks and opportunities.
  • Perform process walks and use metrics to drive quality improvements.
  • Apply design experience to support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Travel 10% to Raytheon facilities or supplier locations as required.

Hardware Program Quality Engineer (PQE) – Upper Tier Missile Defense Portfolio

Join our team as a Hardware Program Quality Engineer (PQE) supporting the Upper Tier Missile Defense portfolio, including the AN/TPY-2 and XBR program families, as part of the Global Sensors and Missions Systems Sub-Strategic Business Unit within the Air and Space Defense Systems Strategic Business Unit of Raytheon in Woburn, Andover, Tewksbury or Marlborough, MA. This role is crucial in identifying and mitigating potential quality issues early in the development process, ensuring product reliability and compliance with quality standards, with support continuing through the full product lifecycle through production and into sustainment. You will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to implement quality strategies and drive improvement. Your understanding of engineering design and processes will help identify and address early-stage quality improvements in hardware design. This role involves both technical work and regular interaction with cross-functional teams to meet quality, cost, schedule and technical goals. This is an on-site position with the primary work location in Woburn, Andover, Tewksbury or Marlborough, MA, with occasional travel opportunities (3-4 weeks/year) to various Raytheon facilities and/or supplier locations.

What You Will Do
  • Establish partnerships with Engineering, Program Leaders, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and Functions to implement Quality strategies.
  • Leverage engineering experience to evaluate designs and specifications, testing plans, methods, and equipment to ensure product reliability and compliance to quality standards.
  • Conduct engineering work products reviews, including Peer Reviews, Configuration Control Boards, Drawing Reviews, Design Reviews, Product Readiness, and Sale to identify and eliminate in-phase defects.
  • Serve as Engineering Hardware Quality Representative on Engineering Review Boards (ERB), Configuration Change Boards (CCB), Risk/Opportunity Management Boards (ROMB), and Material Review Boards (MRB).
  • Evaluate design and manufacturing trade-offs to assess potential risks or opportunities.
  • Perform process walks and use metrics and data to drive quality improvements to achieve measurable results.
  • Apply technical design experience to support root cause analysis (RCA), corrective actions, and closed-loop process improvements to enhance quality and reliability.
  • 10% out-of-town travel as required to various Raytheon facilities and/or supplier locations.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a Bachelors’ Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and five (5) years of prior relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience is in hardware quality or hardware design.
  • Experience in hardware design processes: Creation, reading, and/or interpretation of hardware drawings, product specifications and/or verification methods.
  • Experience in Common Product Data Management (cPDM) or similar data management system (SOLIDWORKS PDM, Autodesk Vault, PTC Windchill PDM, Aras Innovator, etc.).
  • Experience analyzing data, using metrics, and/or driving process improvements.
  • Experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective / preventive action implementation.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience in Hardware Design Engineering, with insight into common design challenges and potential quality risk areas.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering, with insight into common manufacturing challenges and potential quality risk areas.
  • Experience working with the product lifecycle, from initial design through sustainment.
  • Experience working with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and AS9145.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience with Risk & Opportunity evaluation and Management Boards (ROMB).
  • Experience using communication skills, collaborating across teams, and presenting technical concepts.
  • Demonstrated record of exercising professional judgement in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Relevant Certifications, including Six Sigma, CORE, Shainin Red X, GD&T (ASME GDTP), and/or American Society for Quality (ASQ).
