Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise seeks a Hardware Lab Technician in California to support qualification and troubleshooting for new programs and sustaining products. You will use test equipment, read schematics, and work with Linux environments in a hands-on test lab setting.

The role requires experience with X86 servers/storage, soldering, and strong debugging skills, plus collaboration with hardware and quality teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar environment supporting qualification and troubleshoot of X86 servers, Storage appliance, and/or switches.
• Proficient with soldering through-hole and SMT.
• Hands-on role performed at HPE test laboratory.
• Capable of reading MPI to understand system assembly process.
• Able to read schematics and decipher circuit board layout.
• Working knowledge of test and measurement equipment, troubleshooting and electronic debugging is required.
• Working knowledge of networking and system configuration is required.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and database systems like Salesforce, Agile and Xataface.
• Familiarity with embedded x86, chipset, PCIe, SATA/NVMe, networking technologies, system architecture with hands on troubleshooting/testing a plus.
• Working knowledge of Software troubleshooting (Linux environment) a plus.
• Some Mechanical knowledge a plus.
• Effective written and oral communication.
• Ability to lift 65lbs on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

• Prototype new hardware for proof of concept study
• Benchmark and test new/current platforms and components
• Provide test and qualification reports and results in a timely manner
• Document detailed description of failure and steps to reproduce it
• Manage bugs assigned in JIRA and provide timely updates
• Work with the extended engineering team to troubleshoot field returns
• Conduct Failure Analysis on Hewlett Packard Enterprise hardware appliances
• Conduct component level troubleshooting including at the PCBA level
• Collaborate with Hardware Engineer on failure analysis
• Work closely with the Quality team to provide guidance on failure modes
• Assist in the processing, disposition, and tracking of returned appliances
• Ability to setup, test, and monitor systems in the reliability destructive testing (RDT) rack
• Ability to load OS, firmware, and drivers onto the platforms and/or components
• Assist cross-functional teams in troubleshooting systems when required

Job Description:

As a member of Hewlett Packard Enterprise hardware team, the hardware lab technician will use their hardware knowledge to assist in qualification and troubleshooting expertise to enable the launch of new programs and resolution of issues in sustaining products. The successful candidate shall have a working knowledge of test equipment, troubleshooting, Linux, electronic debugging skill set and soldering.
