Job summary

AIIR Holdings Inc. is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Intelligent HVAC Systems team in Addison, TX.

You will design, prototype, test, and commercialize embedded hardware for our unique HVAC platforms, working closely with software and systems engineers. The ideal candidate has 8+ years in hardware development, strong PCB design skills, expertise in power electronics and magnetics, and hands-on lab experience with embedded C and Linux.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering required or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years demonstrated hardware experience with 5+ years in hardware product development.
  • Experience with embedded hardware and power electronics in control systems.
  • Design of analog/digital circuits, PCB layout, and component selection.
  • Strong knowledge of magnetics (inductors/transformers) and capacitors for power conversion.
  • Familiarity with design tools like LTspice/PSpice and MATLAB.
  • Experience with ARM/MCU devices, Linux, and embedded firmware software.

Responsibilities

  • Support design and development of electronic control hardware for HVAC systems.
  • Build prototypes, test, troubleshoot, and refine electronic hardware and HVAC components.
  • Design and develop electronic circuit boards, select components, and optimize layouts.
  • Assist HVAC system build-up, modifications, and testing.
  • Use test equipment to analyze board- and system-level electrical issues.
  • Document all designs, tests, and development activities thoroughly.
  • Develop procedures and manuals as necessary.
  • Address electronics packaging issues including EMI, thermal management, and isolation.

Senior Hardware Engineer

AIIR has an exciting and important opportunity for the right person to join our Intelligent HVAC Systems engineering and product development team to design and commercialize our own unique, purpose-built HVAC systems as a Senior Hardware Engineer. This is a hands-on and highly visible opportunity in a rapidly growing and evolving company with lots of room to grow! We are seeking a person with at least 8 years demonstrated experience with designing and testing of complex electronic systems such as embedded devices and power electronics systems.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
  • Support design and development of electronic control hardware for HVAC systems
  • Build prototypes, modify, test, and troubleshoot as needed the electronic hardware and associated HVAC system, components, and instruments
  • Support design and development of electronic circuit boards including selection of appropriate electronic components
  • Support HVAC system build-up, modifications, and testing
  • Utilize typical electrical test equipment to analyze and troubleshoot board and system level electrical issues
  • Ensure all designs, tests, and development activities are well documented
  • Develop procedures and manuals as necessary
  • Support and/or solve electronics packaging issues including electrical isolation, sealing, thermal management, interconnection, electromagnetic interference (EMI), etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • 8 years of demonstrable experience including 5 in hardware product development
  • Experience with design of electronic control systems including embedded hardware and power electronics
  • Experience with hardware design including design of analog/digital circuits, PCB design and layout, circuit simulations, hardware-firmware interactions, selection of components, and optimization of design.
  • Expert level understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (Electrolytic, film and Ceramic) used for power conversion
  • Experience with design and modeling tools for design of electronic circuits such as LTspice/PSpice, MATLAB etc.
  • Experience with drives with working knowledge of FOC desired
  • Experience with PFC desired
  • Experience with designing systems for EMI
  • Hands-on experience working in a lab environment with development, troubleshooting, and testing of electronic components and systems with embedded electronics
  • Good understanding of technologies such as BLE, Wi-Fi, power management, sensor control, USB, UART, I2C, and various bus communication technologies.
  • Experience with current microprocessor devices and technologies including ARM SOCs, various microcontrollers, flash, and memory
  • Proficiency with basic EE tools such as Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators etc.
  • Familiarity with embedded firmware and software and ability to modify and update as needed
  • Working level knowledge of embedded C, and Linux and Linux operating system
  • Familiarity and use of current of electronics design and simulation tool suites
  • Demonstrated experience in using electronic CAD tools preferably Altium
  • Experience with HVAC&R equipment electronics is a plus
