Job summary

AIIR Intelligent HVAC designs and commercializes innovative HVAC systems using advanced machine learning. The Senior Hardware Engineer will design and validate electronic control hardware, build prototypes, and lead testing to ensure robust, scalable hardware for our intelligent HVAC products.

The role requires at least 8 years of experience in hardware development, with emphasis on embedded hardware, power electronics, EMI, and thermal management for HVAC applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 8 years of demonstrable experience including 5 in hardware product development.
• Experience with design of electronic control systems including embedded hardware and power electronics.
• Experience with hardware design including analog/digital circuits, PCB design and layout, circuit simulations, hardware‑firmware interactions, and component selection.
• Expert understanding of magnetics and capacitors for power conversion.
• Experience with LTspice/PSpice, MATLAB, etc.
• Experience with ARM SOCs, MCUs, flash memory.
• Proficiency with Altium and lab equipment.
• HVAC&R electronics experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support design and development of electronic control hardware for HVAC systems.
• Build prototypes, modify, test, and troubleshoot electronic hardware and associated HVAC system, components, and instruments.
• Support design and development of electronic circuit boards including selection of components.
• Support HVAC system build‑up, modifications, and testing.
• Utilize electrical test equipment to analyze and troubleshoot board and system‑level issues.
• Ensure all designs, tests, and development activities are well documented.
• Develop procedures and manuals as necessary.
• Support electronics packaging issues including EMI, thermal management, isolation, and interconnection.

Senior Hardware Engineer

AIIR has an exciting and important opportunity for the right person to join our Intelligent HVAC Systems engineering and product development team to design and commercialize our own unique, purpose‑built HVAC systems as a Senior Hardware Engineer. This is a hands‑on and highly visible opportunity in a rapidly growing and evolving company with lots of room to grow! We are seeking a person with at least 8 years demonstrated experience with designing and testing of complex electronic systems such as embedded devices and power electronics systems.

Major Areas of Responsibility

• Support design and development of electronic control hardware for HVAC systems
• Build prototypes, modify, test, and troubleshoot as needed the electronic hardware and associated HVAC system, components, and instruments
• Support design and development of electronic circuit boards including selection of appropriate electronic components
• Support HVAC system build‑up, modifications, and testing
• Utilize typical electrical test equipment to analyze and troubleshoot board and system‑level electrical issues
• Ensure all designs, tests, and development activities are well documented
• Develop procedures and manuals as necessary
• Support and/or solve electronics packaging issues including electrical isolation, sealing, thermal management, interconnection, electromagnetic interference (EMI), etc

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering required. Graduate degree preferred.
• 8 years of demonstrable experience including 5 in hardware product development.
• Experience with design of electronic control systems including embedded hardware and power electronics.
• Experience with hardware design including design of analog/digital circuits, PCB design and layout, circuit simulations, hardware‑firmware interactions, selection of components, and optimization of design.
• Expert level understanding of the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors (electrolytic, film and ceramic) used for power conversion.
• Experience with design and modeling tools for design of electronic circuits such as LTspice/PSpice, MATLAB, etc.
• Experience with drives with working knowledge of FOC desired.
• Experience with PFC desired.
• Experience with designing systems for EMI.
• Hands‑on experience working in a lab environment with development, troubleshooting, and testing of electronic components and systems with embedded electronics.
• Good understanding of technologies such as BLE, Wi‑Fi, power management, sensor control, USB, UART, I2C, and various bus communication technologies.
• Experience with current microprocessor devices and technologies including ARM SOCs, various microcontrollers, flash, and memory.
• Proficiency with basic EE tools such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, signal generators, etc.
• Familiarity with embedded firmware and software and ability to modify and update as needed.
• Working level knowledge of embedded C, and Linux and Linux operating system.
• Familiarity and use of current electronics design and simulation tool suites.
• Demonstrated experience in using electronic CAD tools preferably Altium.
• Experience with HVAC&R equipment electronics is a plus.
