The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) PPTT Hardware Engineering team is responsible for the design, development and delivery of trainer integrations for the Next Generation Training Program. This role emphasizes independent project work, stakeholder collaboration, and supplier design reviews to ensure high-fidelity training equipment for Navy programs.

Strong leadership, solid modeling skills, and experience with simulation tools are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field with 9+ years of experience, or Master's with 7+ years, or PhD with 3+ years.
  • Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or RPCO Engineer at the Company.
  • Experience with simulation technology and leading teams.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct independent work efforts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Support design reviews and technical interchanges with suppliers.
  • Review and disposition supplier design submittals to validate designs against requirements.
  • Support on-site hardware inspections of production equipment at supplier facilities.

Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Propulsion Plant Team Trainer (PPTT) Hardware Engineering (PHE) is a multi-site unit responsible for the design, development, and delivery of the PPTT to support the Next Generation Training Program (NGTP). Our focus is centered on trainer Integration to ensure that all aspects of the PPTT come together in a first-of-a-kind product that transforms Navy training for the next four decades.

  • Plan and conduct independent work efforts throughout the project lifecycle
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are being met
  • Support design reviews and technical interchanges with Suppliers
  • Review and disposition Supplier design submittals to validate designs based on technical requirements
  • Support on-site hardware inspections of production equipment at Supplier facilities
Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or
  • Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or
  • Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with simulation technology
  • Strong leadership and ability to work collaboratively
  • Prior experience with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software
  • Prior experience evaluating designs against approved technical requirements
  • Experience providing technical oversight to suppliers within contractual bounds
  • Experience teaming with BPMI
  • Ability to rapidly process information, exhibit effective decision making, and improve project success
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay Range

$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
