Job summary

Arbor Neuroscience is hiring for a hardware engineering role focused on developing and validating the Forest 1 ultrasound and electrophysiology platform. You will work with scientists to translate research needs into robust hardware, coordinate with an external engineering partner, and help make the system portable for non-clinical environments.

The role involves designing implants, boards, and test rigs, with emphasis on reliability, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Depth in at least one of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or bioengineering, with cross-disciplinary knowledge across the others.
  • Record of building physical hardware—instruments, devices, or research tooling—in environments with evolving requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate with external engineering teams and ensure outcomes meet scientific needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with scientists to translate needs into hardware requirements.
  • Own Forest 1 development milestones and coordinate with external engineering partners.
  • Design and validate hardware for a platform combining bidirectional electrophysiology and ultrasound for animal use.
  • Make Forest 1 portable and robust for at-home or non-clinic use.
  • Identify what to build in-house vs. contract out and manage contractors when needed.
  • Prepare platforms for external use with robust documentation and reproducibility.
