As a Fullstack Hardware Engineer, you will take total ownership of major hardware subsystems for our next-generation humanoid platform. You'll work across the full stack-mechanical CAD, PCB design, firmware development, harness design, and production engineering-taking designs from fast, hacky prototypes to polished, mass-market consumer hardware.
What You'll Do
- End-to-End Hardware Systems Design: Architect complete robotic systems-mechanical CADs, PCB layouts, cable harnesses, and battery management systems (BMS)-owning projects from initial concept through final assembly.
- Firmware Development & Board Bring-Up: Write low-level firmware for microcontrollers and FPGAs using C, C++, Python, and Arduino; debug and validate new custom hardware.
- Rapid Prototyping to Mass Production: Build quick physical prototypes to test ideas, iterate designs rapidly, and engineer production-ready hardware for mass scaling.
- Cross-Functional Physical AI Integration: Collaborate closely with the AI and software teams to align hardware architecture with model development for integrated robotic capabilities.
- Supply Chain & Production Operations: Lead peer design reviews, manage supplier and vendor relationships, and build assembly and manufacturing pipelines.
Qualifications
- Work Experience: 1-5 years as a Fullstack Hardware Engineer or in a hands-on hardware development role.
- Scratch Builders: Proven track record of building physical systems, products, or complex projects from scratch (e.g., custom electric bicycles, cars, 3D printers, or consumer electronics).
- Technical Breadth: Demonstrated experience working across the entire physical stack: mechanical design, PCB layout, and low-level firmware programming.
- Software & Languages: Proficiency in Python, C, C++, Arduino, and low-level machine code programming.
- Core Engineering Skills: Ability to independently design custom PCBs and mechanical CAD models.
- Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Work Style: Willingness to work on-site in Palo Alto (5 days/week) with flexibility to work remotely on Sundays as needed during crunch cycles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background: Experience at early-stage robotics startups, physical AI labs, or top-tier engineering organizations (e.g., Tesla, Medra, World Labs, Redwood Materials, CERN).
- Education: Degree from a top-tier engineering program (Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Georgia Tech, UT Austin, Michigan, Waterloo, or similar).
- Mindset: Strong technical opinions, high originality, deep ownership, and a passion for building fast in high-intensity environments.
