Job description

Hardware Development Engineer, Launch Vehicle Integration - Electrical Engineering

Job ID: 10524995 | Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC - M90

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
As a Hardware Development Engineer on the Launch Vehicle Integration - Electrical Engineering team, you will design, develop, test, and sustain electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) supporting Amazon Leo satellite production, integration, and launch operations.
You will work hands-on with electrical hardware throughout its lifecycle, including schematic design, PCBA development, harnessing, rack-level systems, hardware bring-up, verification, troubleshooting, and maintenance of deployed systems. You will also support improvements and modifications to existing ground support hardware as launch configurations and operational needs evolve.
This role provides an opportunity to work directly with spacecraft and launch integration hardware while developing experience across electrical design, test, production, and launch operations.
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
  • Maintain and support existing electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) used for satellite integration, test, and launch operations.
  • Troubleshoot EGSE hardware failures and integration issues using schematics, test documentation, and standard electrical laboratory equipment.
  • Implement design changes to existing hardware to improve reliability, address obsolescence, correct issues, or support evolving operational needs.
  • Support engineering change and configuration control activities, including updates to schematics, bills of material, drawings, test procedures, and other released documentation.
  • Perform hardware checkout, acceptance testing, and verification following established requirements and test procedures.
  • Investigate hardware issues and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions in collaboration with other engineering teams.
  • Provide hands-on electrical support during satellite integration, test, and launch activities, including occasional travel to integration and launch facilities.
  • Support the design and development of new EGSE hardware under the technical direction of more experienced engineers, including schematic design, PCBAs, harnessing, rack-level assemblies, and hardware bring-up.
  • Perform supporting electrical analyses and design evaluations for new or modified hardware, including power distribution, voltage drop, current loading, signal interfaces, and component selection.
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, test, and integration engineers to support reliable operation and continued improvement of EGSE hardware.
