Job summary

Huf North America Automotive Parts Manufacturing, Corp. is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer to lead automotive ECU design, RF/antenna integration, and cross-functional collaboration.

The role focuses on developing small ECUs for car access systems and coordinating with OEMs to deliver next-generation solutions. The candidate will work on RF PCB layout, EMC/EMI assessments, and interfaces with software teams while ensuring packaging guidelines are met and supporting product verification

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (required).
• 3+ years of automotive electrical design experience.
• Experience with LIN, CAN, ISO9141 interfaces.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop small ECUs for car access systems (remote keyless entry, immobilizer).
• Lead RF link-budget analysis and antenna integration in vehicles.
• Define RF PCB layout, controlled-impedance routing, grounding and signal integrity.
• Collaborate with OEM engineering teams to define next-generation solutions.
• Ensure electrical schematics and PCB layouts align with packaging guidelines.
• Support software-hardware interface and product verification.

Hardware Design Engineer

Your Role

In this position, you must be able to demonstrate a strong presence in product design and have a strong background in vehicle Electronic Control Unit (ECU) design including: voltage regulators, high side/low side drivers, Controller Area Network (CAN)/Local Interconnect Network (LIN)/Kline transceivers, microcontroller selection, Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitters (UARTS), Radio Frequency (RF) and wireless technologies and basic interconnecting bus solutions such as SPI and I^2 C.

• Must be able to work with a cross-functional team to develop small ECUs in the vehicle to support Car access systems (remote keyless entry, passive entry, tire pressure monitoring, immobilizer etc.
• Develop best in class solutions for car access products and be able to defend these solutions in front of the customer
• Work with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) engineering teams to define next-generation solutions.
• Develop electronics modules for use in an automobile environment
• Lead RF link-budget analysis, receiver sensitivity, transmit power, and RF range analysis
• Drive antenna selection, design, placement, tuning, and vehicle-level antenna integration
• Develop Bluetooth/BLE, NFC, UWB, and other wireless communication technologies
• Define RF PCB layout, controlled-impedance routing, grounding, shielding, isolation, and RF signal integrity requirements
• Analyze EMC/EMI and RF interference, including radiated and conducted emissions and immunity
• Perform worst case analysis and component reliability studies (Thermal analysis, sneak path, electronic overstress, load dump, EMC, product specifications etc.) using best in class methodologies
• Ability to support the generation of electrical schematics and PCB layout. Knowledge of Mentor Graphics products is a plus
• Develop and maintain product documentation such as: DFMEA, DVPR, EMC test plans etc.
• Work with Software Engineers to ensure a smooth interface between the software and hardware
• Work with test engineering to ensure product verification and validation is performed properly
• Perform statistical analysis of data to predict the reliability and confidence level of the part
• Work with mechanical engineering teams to ensure packaging guidelines

Your Skills

• Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree
• 3 + years of experience with electrical design analysis and evaluation preferably with car access products, Body Control Module (BCM) or interface components to a vehicle system architecture
• Experience in the automotive industry required
• Have strong trouble shooting skills and be able to make command decisions
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Knowledge of C/C++ software preferred
• Familiar with Six Sigma tools
• Understanding of TS16949 quality standards
• Experience with LIN, CAN, ISO9141 driver interfaces preferred
• Experience with fault detection and diagnostics strategies preferred
• Experience with microcontroller selection
• Knowledge of RF/LF circuits is a plus
• Knowledge of capacitive sensing is a plus
• Experience with DOORS requirements capture is a plus
• Experience with Mentor Graphics Expedition and DxDesigner is a plus
• Must be able to travel to Germany approximately 2 to 3 times annually for 1 or 2 weeks each
