Job summary

ACE Outdoor Services is seeking an experienced Hardscape & Heavy Equipment Crew Leader for the South Lyon/Brighton team. This is a full-time, on-site role focusing on landscape construction and hardscape installation rather than mowing lawns.

compensation is $20–$28 per hour, with benefits including health insurance, PTO, 401(k) with company match, and year-round opportunities within ACE Outdoor Services.

Qualifications

• Previous hardscape or landscape construction experience required.
• Experience operating skid steers and mini excavators.
• Ability to lead a crew and oversee field work.
• Strong understanding of grading, base preparation, drainage, and elevations.
• Willingness to perform physically demanding outdoor work.

Responsibilities

• Operate skid steers, mini excavators, and other landscape construction equipment.
• Perform excavation, grading, site preparation, and finish work.
• Install paver patios, walkways, retaining walls, stone, and other hardscape features.
• Prepare proper bases and ensure correct elevations, drainage, and grading.
• Lead and work alongside a landscape construction crew.
• Review job scopes and ensure projects are completed according to plan.
• Load, unload, and safely transport equipment and materials.
• Maintain equipment and report repair or maintenance needs.
• Identify jobsite challenges and make effective field decisions.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites.
• Ensure completed work meets ACE Outdoor Services quality standards.

$20–$28/HR | FULL-TIME | EXPERIENCED CANDIDATES ONLY

Lightning Lawn & Landscape, part of ACE Outdoor Services, is hiring an experienced Hardscape & Heavy Equipment Crew Leader for our South Lyon/Brighton team.

This is a hands-on landscape construction and hardscape position for someone who knows how to operate equipment, build quality projects, and lead work in the field.

This is NOT a lawn mowing or lawn maintenance position.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Operate skid steers, mini excavators, and other landscape construction equipment
• Perform excavation, grading, site preparation, and finish work
• Install paver patios, walkways, retaining walls, stone, and other hardscape features

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• Previous hardscape or landscape construction experience required
• Skid steer and mini excavator experience required
• Experience installing pavers, retaining walls, patios, and similar projects
• Strong understanding of grading, base preparation, drainage, and elevations
• Ability to safely operate commercial landscape equipment
• Crew leadership or foreman experience strongly preferred
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to perform physical outdoor work in changing weather conditions
• Dependable, safety-focused, and able to take ownership of projects
• Strong attention to detail and quality
