Our lighter-than-air high-altitude platform systems (LTA HAPS) are capable of maintaining position over an operational area in the stratosphere (altitudes of 18-21km). They can carry multiple telecommunications, imaging and remote sensing payloads, providing unique functionality, cost, environmental and societal advantages.

Our customers & partners include some of the largest global telecommunications companies, infrastructure operators, climate researchers, civil and defense agencies. At Sceye, we aim high, and we want you to join us at the stratospheric edge of innovation. As part of our mission-driven team, you'll contribute to building breakthrough technologies that are changing the way we connect and observe the world. We are looking for individuals who bring not only deep expertise but also bold vision and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Job Purpose:

Sceye is looking for a hands-on HAPS Assembly and Ground Crew Technician to support the assembly, preparation, launch, recovery, and operational readiness of our high-altitude platform systems.

This is a technical, hands-on role that works across both assembly and flight operations. You'll assemble and inspect HAPS components, prepare aircraft and ground-support equipment, support testing and troubleshooting, and serve as part of the ground crew during flight campaigns.

You’ll work closely with Operations, Assembly, Engineering, and Mission Operations in both indoor production environments and outdoor field conditions.

What You’ll Do:

HAPS Assembly & Technical Support

  • Assemble HAPS components, subassemblies, and hardware using technical drawings, work instructions, checklists, and established procedures.
  • Install, inspect, adjust, and prepare mechanical, structural, electrical, and other system components.
  • Support system testing, verification, and pre-flight preparation.
  • Perform visual and functional inspections to identify defects, damage, discrepancies, or potential safety concerns.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting and communicate technical issues to Operations, Engineering, or other appropriate team members.
  • Accurately complete assembly, inspection, and operational documentation.
  • Properly handle, organize, and protect components, materials, tools, and equipment.

Ground Crew & Flight Operations

  • Serve as an active member of the HAPS ground crew during flight campaigns.
  • Support vehicle preparation, staging, inflation, launch, and recovery operations.
  • Set up, inspect, operate, and break down ground-support equipment.
  • Assist with pre-flight and post-flight inspections and aircraft recovery activities.
  • Safely position, secure, move, and transport HAPS components and operational equipment.
  • Follow launch and recovery procedures, checklists, safety requirements, and direction from operational leadership.
  • Maintain clear communication and situational awareness during time-sensitive operations.
  • Support flight campaign site setup, equipment staging, logistics, and cleanup.

Equipment & Operational Readiness

  • Inspect, maintain, organize, and prepare tools, vehicles, ground-support equipment, and operational assets.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and identify equipment requiring repair or replacement.
  • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, consumables, and operational supplies.
  • Help ensure equipment and materials are ready for scheduled assembly and flight activities.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Follow established safety, quality, configuration control, and documentation requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve assembly processes, equipment readiness, safety, and operational efficiency.

What We’re Looking For:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous hands-on experience in manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, aviation, aerospace, field operations, or a similar technical environment preferred.
  • Technical, vocational, trade school, military, or related training is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using common hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and basic shop equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow technical drawings, work instructions, checklists, and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and safety.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across technical and operational teams.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, equipment, processes, and technologies.
  • Flexibility to support flight operations and changing schedules as mission needs require.
  • Experience with aircraft, unmanned systems, lighter-than-air systems, or flight operations is a plus.

Equivalent combinations of relevant education, training, and hands-on experience will be considered.

Physical Requirements

This position requires significant hands‑on and field‑based activity. The employee must be able to:

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Use hands and arms to handle tools, equipment, components, and materials.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment or materials as required for assembly and ground operations.
  • Work indoors and outdoors for extended periods.
  • Work in varying weather and environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wind, sun, and uneven terrain.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work around vehicles, machinery, tools, aircraft components, and operational equipment.
