Central Synagogue in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a hands-on Handyman to support our facilities team in maintaining mechanical spaces, classrooms and common areas. The role requires practical skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting, plus the ability to operate with minimal supervision during busy schedules and special events.
You will work full-time, be scheduled around events, and assist with snow removal when needed.
Central Synagogue is one of the leading and largest Reform congregations in the country. Central's operations include a pre-school, camp, religious services and programming on Shabbat and Jewish holidays, a religious school, a wide variety of adult programming, as well as social justice work including programs supporting criminal justice reform and food insecurity. These activities take place on an urban campus that includes a 150+ year old landmarked sanctuary building, a nine-story Community House, and ancillary rented office space.

Central Synagogue’s Facilities team is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s MEP and other physical infrastructure is well-maintained, its properties are safe, in good repair, organized, and function smoothly throughout a complex schedule of daily classes, meetings, ceremonies and events. The ideal candidate has strong, diverse maintenance skills, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and provides exceptional service to the building needs.

Compensation: The expected salary for this position is $23.00–$25.00 per hour. Central Synagogue offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
