SportsVet Animal Medical Center, located in Savoy, Illinois, offers a veterinary externship designed for 3rd- and 4th-year veterinary students. You will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in histories, exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgery in a modern 10,000 sq ft facility.

Externships typically run two to eight weeks; a travel/living stipend of $500 is provided to eligible clinical students.

Description & Requirements

We practice out of a recently constructed, 10,000 square ft. facility using state-of-the-art diagnostics and up-to-date software. Each of our DVMs provides a unique perspective and learning experience. Each day will be different, hands-on, and likely full of laughs. We work hard but truly enjoy what we do!

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. SportsVet Animal Medical Center offers externships to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
