Job summary

Walmart is seeking a Senior Manager, Software Engineering to design scalable backend services and guide a 3–6 person team in Denver. You’ll balance hands-on coding with architectural leadership, build distributed systems on AWS, and own data models across SQL and NoSQL stores.

The role emphasizes deep technical work, system design, and a track record of delivering reliable, scalable software in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field plus 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience as an alternative path.
• 2 years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of modular, scalable, highly available backend services.
• Stay hands-on — author and review code in .NET/C#, set standards, and mentor engineers.
• Architect and operate distributed systems on AWS using Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes/ECS.
• Own data design across relational (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch).
• Drive testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and defect resolution to keep services healthy.
• Manage, mentor, and grow a team of 3-6 engineers.
