Job summary

VIAVI Solutions in Indianapolis, IN, is seeking an Optical & Electrical Engineering Intern to contribute to the design, development, and testing of advanced optical and electrical systems for our network test and measurement solutions.

You will assist in circuit and module prototyping, perform lab testing and data analysis, support design reviews, and help document findings as part of a hands-on, learning-focused engineering team.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field.
• Basic circuit design principles and analog/digital electronics.
• Familiarity with optical components, fiber optics, or optical communication systems is a plus.
• Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and power supplies.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, simulation, and prototyping of electrical circuits and optical modules.
• Conduct laboratory testing and characterization of hardware components and systems, including data acquisition and analysis.
• Develop and execute test plans, analyze results, and document findings.
• Support senior engineers in troubleshooting and debugging hardware issues.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to technical discussions.
• Research and evaluate new technologies, components, and methodologies.
• Maintain accurate records of experiments, designs, and analysis.
