Job summary

VIAVI Solutions in Indianapolis is seeking an Optical & Electrical Engineering Intern to contribute to the design, development, and testing of advanced optical and electrical systems for network test and measurement solutions. This hands-on role offers exposure to real-world hardware development in a dynamic lab.

You will assist in design, simulation, prototyping, lab testing, data analysis with MATLAB or Python, and documentation, while learning from senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of circuit design principles, analog and digital electronics.
• Familiarity with optical components, fiber optics, or optical communication systems is a plus.
• Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and power supplies.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design, simulation, and prototyping of electrical circuits and optical modules.
• Conduct laboratory testing and characterization of hardware components and systems, including data acquisition and analysis.
• Develop and execute test plans, analyze results, and document findings.
• Support senior engineers in troubleshooting and debugging hardware issues.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to technical discussions.
• Research and evaluate new technologies, components, and methodologies.
• Maintain accurate records of experiments, designs, and analysis.
