Job summary

RKS Design in Thousand Oaks, CA is seeking a Mid-Level Mechanical/Product Development Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. You will develop complex mechanical and electro-mechanical products from concept through production, collaborating with designers, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and user-focused results.

You will own engineering tasks, perform tolerance analysis, create 3D CAD parts, support prototyping and testing, and help translate industrial

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Approximately 6–8 years of professional product development experience.
• Strong proficiency with parametric 3D CAD and production-ready designs.
• Experience designing parts for plastic injection molding.
• Knowledge of sheet metal, machining, castings, additive manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Create mechanical, electro-mechanical, and assembly designs using 3D CAD.
• Develop components and assemblies balancing requirements, manufacturability, cost, and user experience.
• Translate concepts into practical engineering solutions while maintaining design intent.
• Develop drawings, BOMs, tolerances, and supporting documentation.
• Build prototypes, assist testing, and perform design verification.
• Perform tolerance analysis and address manufacturing issues.
• Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and contract manufacturers.
• Review tooling and manufacturing designs for fit and quality.
• Support design transfer and manufacturing transition.
• Research new materials and processing technologies.
• Communicate engineering recommendations in client meetings.
