Job summary

STEM Search Group seeks an hands-on Technical Architect for our data platform in the United States. You will own schema design, performance tuning, and make platform tradeoffs in a landscape without a dedicated architect.

You will lead a small data engineering team, design ELT workstreams with Snowflake, and guide BI strategy using Tableau and Sigma to ensure scalable dashboards across the new environment. A player-coach mindset and strong mentorship are essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on data engineering architecture experience: owning schema design, performance tuning, and platform tradeoffs without a dedicated architect.
• Strong working knowledge of Snowflake or comparable cloud data warehouse.
• Experience with modern ELT/transformation tooling such as dbt, Coalesce, or similar platforms.
• Experience with Tableau or a comparable BI tool.
• A player-coach leadership style: leads by doing, not just delegating.
• Strong interpersonal skills and investment in team culture, mentorship, and cross-functional relationships.
• Nice to have: Azure experience, Sigma, Streamlit, or exposure to legacy Microsoft data stacks (SQL Server, SSIS) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Act as hands-on technical architect for the data platform and make design decisions.
• Lead and coach a small data engineering team with pipeline design and code reviews.
• Own the technical roadmap for migrating core data infrastructure to Snowflake.
• Modernize ELT/transformation workflows using dbt/Coalesce; retire legacy processes as the platform evolves.
• Guide reporting/BI strategy across Tableau and Sigma for scalable dashboards.
• Coach and develop team through regular 1:1s and pairing; mentor skill gaps.
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into scalable data solutions.
