Role Description

The Hand and Upper Extremity Physical or Occupational Therapist will provide evaluation and evidence-informed treatment for individuals with conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing detailed assessments, developing and implementing individualized rehabilitation plans, and using appropriate therapeutic modalities and exercises to restore function and reduce pain. The therapist will collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals, document clinical care in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards and educate patients and families on home programs and injury prevention. Additional responsibilities include participating in interdisciplinary team meetings, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to student or resident education as appropriate. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Rochester, NY.

Qualifications

• Clinical expertise in Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy, with specific skills in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation.
• Knowledge of Medicine and Rehabilitation principles relevant to musculoskeletal, post-surgical, and neurologic conditions of the upper extremity.
• Strong Communication skills, including the ability to explain treatment plans clearly, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and document care accurately.
• Experience or interest in Pediatrics for treating children with upper extremity injuries or congenital conditions, when applicable to the role.
• Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy program; current professional licensure or eligibility for licensure in New York State.
• Certification or advanced training in hand therapy (e.g., CHT) preferred, or a demonstrated commitment to pursuing specialty education.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment, manage a varied caseload, and use electronic health record systems.
