This position will serve as the County Maintenance Engineer in our Halifax County Maintenance Office.

Use professional skills and knowledge to solve difficult highway maintenance problems, to accomplish force account construction projects, to supervise & monitor maintenance program to ensure sufficient & safe use of personnel, equipment, & materials. Employee must have the ability to formulate a comprehensive highway maintenance program within limits of budget. Employee must supervise and evaluate the performance of other employees. Must be able to effectively communicate and maintain a working relationship with the general public, local government, fellow employees, etc. Employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle and make field investigations of unlevel terrain, including steep slopes & work in extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, extreme heat and cold. Must be able to apply professional engineering skills and knowledge to difficult highway projects and problems. Must be available as necessary to manage staff seven days per week, 24 hours a day.

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
