Role Overview

Y Salon & Spa is seeking a highly skilled and creative Hair Stylist to join our luxury spa team in the heart of Downtown San Mateo. Our 5,000+ square‑foot spa offers a full‑service experience including hair, nails, massage, skincare, head spa, and wellness treatments in a refined, modern setting. We are looking for a professional who is passionate about hair artistry, guest experience, and delivering impeccable results that align with our five‑star standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform luxury‑level coloring, balayage and hair treatment enhancements in accordance with spa protocols and brand standards.
• Deliver precise hair care, shaping, buffing, hair treatments, styling services, and specialty treatments.
• Customize services based on guest preferences, hair health, and desired results.
• Provide warm, intuitive, and polished guest service, ensuring each client feels relaxed and valued.
• Educate guests on hair health, aftercare, and maintenance products.
• Recommend retail and home‑care products (hair oils, strengthening treatments, hydration products) authentically and professionally.
• Maintain immaculate hair stations and treatment rooms at all times.
• Follow all state regulations for sanitation, hygiene, and safe product handling.
• Accurately document guest preferences and service notes in spa software.
• Communicate clearly with spa leadership, front desk, and fellow team members.
• Participate in ongoing training, brand education, and new service launches.
• Support spa promotions, seasonal offerings, and VIP experiences as needed.

Qualifications

• Valid California Cosmetology License.
• 1–2 years of experience in a luxury spa, high‑end salon, resort, or premium hospitality environment preferred.
• Expertise in hair systems.
• Experience with structured hair colors or enhancements is a plus.
• Strong understanding of hair health, product knowledge, and advanced techniques.
