Job summary
BCforward is seeking a Hadoop/Data Platform Operations Engineer in Charlotte, NC for a contract position lasting 11 months. You will monitor HDFS/Ozone clusters, drive capacity planning, and provide operational insights to governance teams.
Responsibilities include incident coordination, data ingestion and ETL validation, and building runbooks with automation using Python and shell scripting.
Qualifications
- Strong proficiency with Hadoop ecosystem technologies: HDFS, Hive, Spark, Ozone.
- Experience with Hive Metastore management and table or partition maintenance.
- Background supporting large-scale data warehouse environments on Hadoop.
- Hands-on data ingestion, ETL, and data validation experience.
- Shell scripting and Python automation expertise.
- Experience with CDP or similar Hadoop distributions.
- Strong SQL and data analytics skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in executive reporting and storytelling.
- High organization with strong analytical and critical thinking skills, both strategic and tactical.
- Experience leveraging AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and insights.
Responsibilities
- Provide analytics, executive reporting and operational insights to drive capacity planning and financial governance.
- Monitor and resolve HDFS and Ozone related issues across clusters.
- Investigate cluster performance, storage utilization and capacity concerns.
- Manage quota requests, storage allocation and capacity planning activities.
- Support application onboarding and data platform integration efforts.
- Coordinate with application teams during incident resolution and problem management.
- Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks and knowledge articles.
