A leading company in the food and beverage manufacturing industry is seeking a dedicated HACCP Coordinator in Chicago. This role involves designing and implementing food safety plans to meet regulatory and customer requirements while ensuring compliance through effective quality assurance measures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in QA with HACCP certification and significant experience in food safety protocols, enabling them to lead and improve operations across production shifts.
The HACCP Coordinator has the primary responsibility for protecting the food by designing and implementing Food Safety and Quality plans to effectively meet all regulatory, customer and Assemblers requirements. The HACCP Coordinator will review documentation and directly observe individuals performing food safety and quality functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assure facility is operating according to USDA / FDA requirements by developing, performing, and maintaining HACCP / Food Safety programs
• Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of the plants Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs
• Develops, reviews and updates documents and procedures pertinent to quality and food safety
• Act as a quality liaison for key customer accounts
• Works cross-functionally in identifying and resolving food safety and quality issues as they present themselves, creating CAPA’s with defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
• Creates and implements site specific HACCP program, SSOPs, and SOPs; validates and assures programs are up to date
• Assist with creating and issuing finished good COC’s and COA’s
• Support pre-operational and operational sanitation inspection in accordance with regulatory, SQF, customer and Assemblers requirements
• Communicate effectively with the USDA and/or FDA inspector, customers, production staff and peers regarding food safety and quality matters
• Design, prepare, and maintain HACCP documentation paperwork flow, verification, and on-going record keeping for both production and Food Safety and Quality departments
• Lead, conduct and coordinate food safety meetings and support all note taking and follow-up documentation surrounding regulatory
• Assist Quality Managers during times of absence and complete other duties as required
• Ensuring test equipment is maintained and calibrated according to specifications
• Maintaining a Non-Conforming Material Review and Corrective Action Process
• Establish and maintain document control procedures
• Perform training through the company as needed and assist in development of procedures
• Review HACCP corrective and preventative actions for effectiveness and compliance with regulatory requirements
• Support all regulatory, customer and third-party audits
• Conduct and direct all HACCP activities on all production shifts
• Review necessary regulatory paperwork for accuracy and completeness. Identify documentation errors and report deficiencies to the Quality Assurance Manager.
• Conduct hazard analysis, HACCP reassessment, HACCP verification, and HACCP validation activities
• Ensures all products produced meet or exceed all customer, regulatory, and company requirements as they relate to food safety
• Supports all food safety matters and works in conjunction with the Food Safety and Quality Manager and staff to ensure product safety is always maintained
• Assist Food Safety & Quality manager with maintaining Food Safety and Quality programs
• Maintain and update USDA and HACCP records, files and food safety programs
• Assist with customer document requests and questionnaires, investigate customer related complaints
• Responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HACCP and pre-requisite programs
Required Skills
• Minimum of 4 years related QA experience in developing HACCP Plans
• Requires PCQI and/or HACCP certification (IDV / Advance HACCP certification preferred)
• Able to use and learn SPC and statistical analysis
• Able to develop and generate HACCP forms, documents, and programs
• Strong business acumen a must; continuous improvement mindset
• Ability to interpret, adapt, document and apply guidelines and procedures
• Accessible to all production shifts.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and work experience (Biology, Microbiology, Pathology, Food Technology, Food Science, Food Microbiology)
