Job summary

South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources in Watertown, SD, seeks a Habitat Biologist Intern for the Summer session (May–August). The intern will assist habitat staff with grass and food plot planting, tree clearing, weed control, fence construction, and prescribed fire tasks.

Applicants must be enrolled as a part‑time or full‑time student in the upcoming or preceding semester; completion of one year of study is expected. Training opportunities and field work are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part‑time or full‑time student at time of application.
• By start of internship, must have completed one year of study.
• Preference may be given to South Dakota residents and SD institutions.

Responsibilities

• Assist habitat staff with planning, preparation, and planting of grass and food plots.
• Help with tree clearing, weed fabric installation, and fence construction.
• Support prescribed fire planning and area signing; participate in trainings.
• Assist with wildlife surveys and bird banding if opportunities arise.
