Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a part-time Equipment Operator to maintain Virginia roadways. You will operate highway equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and assist with emergency snow removal and road repairs.

The role requires lifting capability, adherence to safety rules, and instruction-following. A valid driver’s license and knowledge of maintenance procedures are essential. Work is on-site with exposure to outdoor conditions.

Description for Candidates:

• Perform a combination of skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance and manual labor tasks to maintain Virginia's roadways. • Emergency Operations : Operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment to perform maintenance and construction activities.

• Emergency Operations: Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other types of emergency operations. Clear roadways of snow, ice and debris and provide accident clean-up and traffic control during and after normal working hours.
• Job Safety : Demonstrate proper work site protection techniques. Identify workplace hazards and make suggestions for improvements to ensure workplace safety. Wear proper personal protection equipment. Maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA, VOSHA, etc.). Use equipment properly and safely. Apply MUTCD for detours, lane closures, work zones, etc. Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work environment. Follow VDOT safety regulations and practices.

• Skill in equipment operation and performing preventive maintenance.
