Hiring Range: $15.91 to $25.85

Description for Candidates:

  • Perform a combination of skilled equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks to maintain Virginia's roadways. Perform special duties as assigned.

How you will contribute:

  1. Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment for maintenance and construction activities.
  2. Prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal or other emergency operations. Clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and provide accident clean-up and traffic control during and after normal working hours.
  3. Job Safety: Demonstrate proper work site protection techniques, identify hazards, and suggest improvements to ensure safety. Wear proper PPE, follow safety regulations (OSHA, VOSHA), and use equipment safely. Apply MUTCD for detours and work zones. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  4. Manual Labor: Participate as a crew member to complete projects and perform manual labor and maintenance tasks as needed.
  5. Preventative Maintenance: Perform repairs, replacements, and inspections on vehicles and equipment, including pre-trip inspections.
