The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Health & Wellness Director to lead all fitness programs and services at our Virginia Beach facility. You will work closely with the VP of Health & Wellness to develop, implement, and manage programs that support members in achieving their wellness goals and foster an active, inclusive community.

This leadership role requires oversight of a team of fitness professionals, collaboration with other staff, and a commitment to safety, quality, and the YMCA

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred.
  • Certification from ACSM, NASM, or ACE required.
  • Experience in fitness program management and staff supervision preferred.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Position Summary

The passionate, self-motivated Health & Wellness Director will work hand-and-hand with the Vice President of Health & Wellness to serve members of the Y and support their wellness goals. The Health & Wellness Director is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of all fitness programs and services within the YMCA facility. This position plays a crucial role in promoting the YMCA's mission to foster a healthy, active, and engaged community. The Health & Wellness Director leads a team of fitness professionals and collaborates with other YMCA staff to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive fitness experience for members of all ages and abilities.

  • Develop and implement a diverse range of fitness programs, classes, and activities catering to members' interests and needs.
  • Ensure that fitness programs align with the YMCA's mission, values, and safety standards.
  • Monitor program effectiveness, gather feedback, and make necessary adjustments to continuously improve offerings.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise fitness staff, including personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and fitness floor attendants.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and offer constructive feedback to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages member participation and engagement in fitness activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract and retain members, ensuring their fitness goals are met.
  • Actively engage with members, addressing their feedback and concerns, and fostering a sense of community within the fitness programs.
  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of fitness equipment, ensuring a safe and functional environment for members.
  • Monitor expenses and revenues, ensuring financial goals are met while providing cost-effective fitness services.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure the well-being of members and staff during fitness activities.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification from a recognized fitness organization (e.g., ACSM, NASM, ACE) is required.
  • Previous experience in fitness program management and staff supervision is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, members, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement fitness programs suitable for diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and industry standards related to fitness equipment and exercise routines.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate program needs.

Salary Description

$42,000 - $45,000 per year
