Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director (PhD/MD/DO-level) to exchange scientific information with national and regional Scientific Leaders. The role supports scientific exchange, research, congress activities, and insights.

Travel up to 50% within the defined US territory is required, with remote work options. The candidate will engage in high-level discussions, lead site and trial discussions with GCTO, and ensure regulatory and ethical compliance across US regions.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond degree program.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with key external stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other ethical guidelines governing the pharmaceutical industry.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and work in a dynamic environment with travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships and engages with national and regional SLs to share approved medical information.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a reliable presence with SLs.
• Addresses questions and directs inquiries on issues outside the Director scope to appropriate resources.
• Maintains current knowledge of dynamic scientific environments in AOIs for therapeutic areas.
• Initiates discussions with SLs or investigators to align research strategies and trial concepts.
• Recommends sites and investigators for phase II–IV programs and leads protocol discussions with GCTO.
