Job description

Nature of Work

Under the direction of the Gymnastics Supervisors, this position is responsible for teaching skills pertaining to gymnastics, and supervises participants safely in a public recreation facility.

Essential Functions
  • Must possess a highly defined focus towards both internal and external guest service.
  • Explains and demonstrates use of apparatus and equipment.
  • Explains and demonstrates principles, techniques, and methods of regulating movement of body, hands, and feet to achieve proficiency.
  • Observes gymnasts during practice to detect and correct mistakes.
  • Explains and enforces safety rules and regulations.
  • Manages classes of children by keeping attention.
  • Finds substitutes for classes when not available.
  • Communicates with parents, gymnasts, coordinator(s), and supervisor.
  • Attends all required meetings and trainings.
  • Sets up, cleans up, and moves equipment for proper class or party.
  • Checks equipment and space for proper safety.
  • Reports accidents and injuries that occur during class.
  • Administers first-aid as necessary.
Management & Supervisory Duties
  • Oversees activities and actions of program participants.
Illustrative Examples of Duties
  • Set up and clean up for daily circuits or classes.
  • Record attendance and progression of participants.
  • Perform all required duties in a timely manner as assigned.
  • Check equipment and conduct inventory on a regular basis to ensure a safe environment for class participants.
  • Maintain excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Assist participants, including extended periods of standing and stabilizing others, as applicable.
Knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of modern principles, instructional methods, practices, equipment, and techniques relating to the functional areas of responsibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable class curriculum and/or lesson plans.
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
Abilities
  • Transfer knowledge of specialized area to class participants.
  • Instruct participants properly and safely to reach their goals.
  • Perform work in an indoor environment with frequent interruptions and distractions.
Required Training, Experience & Qualifications
  • Safety training through USAG, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • CPR/AED and First-Aid Certification, or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
  • 0-3 years experience with gymnastics and other programs as a judge, participant, or in other capacities that result in hands-on knowledge of the sport.
  • 0-3 years experience instructing the specified course level hired to teach.
