A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to instruct the sport of gymnastics and other activities as needed.
Independent judgment is required to identify, select and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for teaching instructional classes and the girl’s competitive gymnastics team and participating in meetings and any other gymnastics events. The contracted Gymnastics Instructor will assist and aid in the roles of the Head Coach and the Gymnastics Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
- Instruct and coach gymnastics classes and the competitive team.
- Arrive before scheduled teaching time to set up classes.
- Move and set up equipment.
- Spot participants (lifting as necessary).
- Responsible for all handouts for classes and teams.
- Maintain class discipline protocol.
- Document and report injuries for participants.
- Follow class lesson plans and team schedules.
- Evaluate participants in the class program and inform the Gymnastics Coordinator of advanced participants.
- Maintain knowledge of current competitive routines.
- Attend any required training and regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Ability to travel to and from competitive meets.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Understand that the omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of principles, techniques, and methods of maintaining and using gymnastics apparatus.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.
- Analyze and evaluate procedures and work processes, exercising appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and deal effectively and courteously with others, working independently and in team settings.
- Proficient in typing or using a personal computer with word processing and related software, entering and retrieving information with reasonable speed and accuracy.
- Moderate physical activity; requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds, standing, sitting, and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Minimum Requirements:
- Age minimum 16 years.
- Previous gymnastics experience, as well as coaching or instructional experience, is preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in communicating with diverse communities and in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
- Extensive hours and weekends may be required at times.
