Job summary

YMCA of West Bend is seeking a part-time Gymnastics Coach for the Feith Family YMCA in Port Washington, WI. The role involves instructing participants, ensuring safety, and focusing on progression tailored to individual needs. Shifts occur Thursday evenings from 4-7pm, with a wage of $15/hour.

Responsibilities include coaching, supervising practice and meets, warm-ups, skill progression, and maintaining a positive, professional environment for members and families.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Strong gymnastics coaching knowledge and competition experience.
  • Able to instruct, coach and spot gymnasts, including upper levels.
  • Able to interact with kids at their cognitive level; available evenings and weekends.

  • Instructs students individually or in groups on rules, techniques, and equipment use.
  • Observes participants to assess needs for improvement.
  • Maintains professionalism supervising practice and meets.
  • Leads daily warm-ups and teaches skills progressively based on ability.
  • Applies basic spotting techniques and enforces safety procedures at all times.
  • Manages time and coordinates with instructors to maintain class flow.
  • Communicates professionally with participants and parents; collaborates with staff.
  • Builds positive relationships with members, participants, volunteers, and the community.

Job description

Status: under 29 hours/week

Location: Feith Family YMCA (465 Northwoods Rd. Port Washington, WI 53074)

Wage: $15/hour

Benefit Package Including: Free Y Membership; Program Discounts including Child Care, School Age Care, and Day Camp

Hours: Thursday evenings from 4-7pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Recreation Director the Gymnastics Coach is responsible for instructing participants, overseeing safety and understanding the importance of progression, safety and the individual needs to each participant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Coaches and instructs students, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, and proper use of equipment
  • Observes students during practice and competition to help determine the needs for the individual or team improvement.
  • Establishes and maintains professionalism while supervising students and coaches during practice and meets.
  • Participates in daily warm-ups.
  • Teach skills in progression and based on each participant’s skill level.
  • Practical application of basic spotting techniques.
  • Enforces the utmost safety procedures at all times.
  • Practices time management skills and communicates with instructors to promote the organizational flow of classes.
  • Communicates, listens and responds in a professional manner with participants and their parents.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative manner with other staff.
  • Builds and maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, volunteers, other staff, and the communities we serve.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies within the Child Abuse Prevention handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Practical understanding and comprehensive knowledge of gymnastics competitions, teaching techniques, and evaluation participant performance.
  • Must be able to instruct, coach and spot gymnasts, including upper-level gymnasts.
  • Ability to interact with kids at their cognitive level.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Bloodborne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long amounts of time.
