Job summary

The Park District of Oak Park is seeking a Gymnastics Coach II for a part-time role. You will plan, teach and supervise preschool and recreational gymnastics, ensuring safety and fun. Compensation ranges from $15.40 to $18.00 per hour, with PTO and an employee discount for part-time staff.

You will lead classes, evaluate progress, and maintain equipment, with opportunities to coach teams and lead birthday parties as needed. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Qualifications

  • CPR, First Aid and AED certification required within 1 month of employment and kept current.
  • Must be 16+ years old (15+ with permit).
  • Ability to work with and instruct children.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow directions with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches recreational gymnastics to preschoolers and children.

Job description

Overview:

The Gymnastic Coach II is a Part‑Time Position. We offer competitive compensation $15.40 - $18.00 Hourly, PTO and an employee discount for part‑time employees.

Job Purpose:

To plan, teach and instruct girls and boys preschool and recreational gymnastics classes in a safe manner with a recreational focus.

Essential Functions:
  • Teaches recreational gymnastics classes to preschoolers aged 3 ½ to 5 and recreational students age 6 and up
  • Evaluates participant skill progress
  • Maintains equipment and gymnastics facility
  • Prepares and delivers class lesson plans with gymnastics program standards
  • Spots participants on gymnastics equipment and tumbling skills
  • Provides class leadership
Additional Functions:
  • Performs office/clerical tasks as necessary
  • Prepares incident and accident reports
  • Prepares and coaches teams for competition upon request
  • Teach parent and tot gymnastics classes for age 2-3 years
  • Teach tumbling, trampoline, adult gymnastics, cheer and other gymnastics related programs upon request
  • Lead gymnastics birthday parties
  • Assists with the monitoring of first aid supplies and equipment for gymnastics center
  • Maintains knowledge of and follows all Federal, State, Local and Park District safety regulations
  • Maintains a complete understanding of Park District emergency action plan
  • Communicates any program deviations to immediate supervisor and customer service staff
  • Available nights and weekends as needed
  • Attends staff meetings as needed or requested
  • Performs other projects as assigned
Knowledge, Skill and Work ExperienceRequired:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age, or 15 with a valid worker's permit
  • Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.

Recommended:
  • At least 1 year of gymnastics coaching experience preferred
  • Former gymnast willing to train and learn
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft office applications
Work Environment, Physical Demands and Considerations:
  • Frequently standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, running, and walking
  • Occasionally Sitting
  • Strength Work requires the ability to move and lift medium to heavy weight (up to 50 lbs. over 50 lbs with assistance)
  • Other requirements may include talking, hearing, and seeing to perform the following necessary duties: Teaching programs and supervising students, operating office equipment including but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, fax machines and telephones
  • Normal gym conditions for majority of work. May include occasional light and temperature variations.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, gymnastics chalk and elevation
  • May be exposed to occasional inclement weather, as position requires temporary outdoor work
  • Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise verbal and written manner
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to use independent judgment, initiative and respond to unexpected or unplanned events or demands
