Kitchen Manager

Summary:

The Kitchen Manager supports the restaurant manager in a medium sales volume environment with moderately complex kitchen and culinary operations. Responsibilities include supervising non-management associates, implementing kitchen and culinary changes, and performing other duties as directed by the business or management. This is an exempt position, typically reporting to the Restaurant Manager, depending on local requirements.

Essential Functions:
  1. Ensure daily staffing, cleanliness, inventory levels, and equipment functionality in the kitchen.
  2. Supervise daily activities of kitchen staff and assign responsibilities.
  3. Monitor and update prep, par, and pull sheets.
  4. Train cooks and prep cooks.
  5. Ensure recipe compliance and complete self-inspection reports.
  6. Oversee correct expediting procedures.
  7. Maintain planograms for walk-in refrigerators.
  8. Identify staffing needs such as hiring, firing, and promotions.
  9. Comply with company, franchise, and regulatory standards, ensuring products are prepared and presented according to standards.
  10. Provide high-quality customer service, including staff training to ensure customer satisfaction and product quality.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
  • High School diploma or GED required; Inter-Provincial Red Seal certification preferred; brand certification advantageous.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medium-volume or multi-unit kitchen operations; 3+ years preferred.
  • Knowledge of product standards, customer service, equipment, and operational procedures.
  • Strong team management, delegation, issue resolution, coaching, and motivational skills; ability to act as a change agent.
  • Excellent organization and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to read, comprehend instructions, policies, and communicate effectively.
