Job summary

Scheels Johnstown store is seeking a part-time associate who welcomes customers, provides personal service, rings up purchases, and explains the digital receipt program.

As an ESOP owner, you’ll earn ownership after 1,000 hours and three years, plus 401(k) options, employee discounts, and community volunteering. Hours are 15–20 per week with 2–3 shifts, weekends required, and firearm-related duties as applicable.

Qualifications

• Candidate must be at least 21 years old.
• High school diploma or GED and/or 1-3 months cashiering experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and engage in conversation while delivering personalized service.
• Accurately scan items, ring through purchases, and ensure payment before exit.
• Promote the Scheels Visa card and explain benefits to customers.
• Process returns and exchanges for firearm purchases and perform firearm background checks.
• Assist with Gun Room housekeeping and maintain ATF compliance.
• Close each transaction with a courteous thanks to the customer.

Responsibilities:

• Greet all customers with a smile when entering and exiting the store
• Enhance the customer experience by engaging in conversation while providing personalized service and consistently meeting the goals of the digital receipt program
• Accurately scan every item customers are purchasing, ensuring all merchandise is properly rung through and paid for before the customer leaves the store
• Treat merchandise with care, and bag purchases carefully and efficiently
• Promote the Scheels Visa card and clearly explain all benefits
• End each transaction by saying “thank you” to every customer
• Process returns and exchanges for firearm purchases
• Complete firearm background checks
• Assist with Gun Room housekeeping
• Ensure all ATF federal laws and guidelines are followed
• Ability to execute technology-based processes for firearm and/or suppressor transactions
• All other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

*Candidate must be at least 21 years of age.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and/or 1-3 months of cashiering experience

Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.

Heavy work – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Schedule and Compensation:

• Hours: Average of 15-20 hours per week
• The Shift: 2-3 shifts a week ranging from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM or 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
• Weekends: Minimum of every other weekend (Saturdays between 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM; Sundays 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM).
• Pay: The hourly rate posted is a base hourly wage of $17.00/HR.
