Job Description: Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Modeling & Simulation Engineer

Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control division is seeking a GNC Engineer specializing in Modeling and Simulation. This role involves joining a team of systems engineering technologists and algorithm developers working on various contracts and internal research and development (IRAD) projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Model and Simulation Design and Documentation: Design and document the requirements and architecture for models and simulations.
  2. Model and Simulation Development and Verification/Validation: Develop, verify, and validate complex models and simulations, including missile 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulations and effects-based simulations.
  3. System Performance Evaluation: Evaluate system performance in complex scenarios and environments, verifying system and subsystem-level requirements.
  4. Analysis and Testing: Perform critical studies, analyses, and test activities.
  5. Support for Ground and Flight Tests: Support ground and flight test efforts, including Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) activities.
  6. Program Reviews and Technical Interchange Meetings: Participate in program reviews and technical interchange meetings with internal leadership and external customers.

Basic Qualifications:

  1. U.S. Citizenship: Required for security clearance.
  2. Onsite Work: Willingness to work onsite in a classified area or lab environment.
  3. Education: BS or MS degree in computer science, physics, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, applied mathematics, or a similar field.
  4. Programming Proficiency: Proficient in C++. Proficient in either Matlab or Python.
  5. GNC/M&S Experience: Demonstrated ability to perform GNC or M&S assignments such as development and analysis of algorithms (guidance, navigation, autopilot, inertial tracking, servo control), development and verification/validation of complex vehicle models and simulations, and strong mathematical skills in linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformations.
  6. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Proficiency with Python and Linux.
  • Experience with Agile development.
  • Ability to perform preflight system performance assessments and post-flight verification analyses.
  • Experience deploying algorithms that meet real-time performance requirements.
  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines and software version control (e.g., Git).

Security Clearance: A government security clearance (Secret with Investigation or CV date within 5 years) is required. U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

Work Schedule: 4×10 hour days, 3 days off per week (onsite).
