Job summary

Wayne County Schools Employment Network seeks a Guidance Counselor at Melvindale High School to provide comprehensive student support, course planning, and post-secondary preparation. Responsibilities

• Provide student support in academics, course planning, school rules, etc.
• Assess and counsel students based on observations, conversations, and test results.
• Guide students to choose courses consistent with interests, abilities and goals.
• Help students develop post-secondary education plans.
• Advise and counsel students on academic, educational, and social-emotional issues.
• Assist with conflict resolution and crisis intervention and refer families to services when needed.
• Participate in Student Success Teams (SST) and coordinate with professionals to ensure services.
• Consult with parents, teachers, admins and others on student education matters including accommodations.
• Provide feedback and recommendations for individual student needs.
• Coordinate all state testing programs.
• Complete assessments, analyze results and provide feedback.
• Assist with report cards and progress reports.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Building Principal or designee.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide support services for students in the areas of academic programs, team teaching, registration, course planning, school rules, etc.
• Assess and counsel students based on observations, conversations, and test results.
• Guide students to choose courses consistent with his/her interests, abilities and career goals.
• Help students develop post-secondary education plans in accordance with their interests and abilities.
• Advise and counsel students regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional problems.
• Provide assistance with conflict resolution and crisis intervention to students when difficult situations occur at school or home, and refer students and families to appropriate service providers when necessary.
• Participate in the Student Success Teams (SST) to identify students who may need targeted or intensive services, and coordinate with other professionals to ensure services are provided.
• Consult, facilitate, and maintain communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student academic and education matters including academic modifications and/or accommodations.
• Provide feedback and recommend appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.
• Coordinate all state testing programs.
• Complete assessments and tests, analyze results and provide feedback.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Working Schedule and Rate of Pay
