Job description

Job Overview

Leidos Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Guidance and Control Engineer to work in Huntsville, AL. The role supports rapid development for navigation of air, land, and sea launched flight systems, supporting programs such as AGM-190/A Small Cruise Missile, GBU 69/B Small Glide Munition, hypersonic missile programs, and DARPA’s Gremlins program.

Primary Responsibilities

Development and analysis of guidance and autopilot algorithms, implementation of these items in 6‑DOF simulations and operational flight software. Conduct trade studies for design decisions, develop techniques to assess, validate and verify performance, and support flight tests with pre‑flight predictions and post‑flight analyses.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics with 2‑4 years of work experience, or Master’s degree in engineering or physics and research in areas such as feedback control system design, trajectory optimization, guidance, and/or optimal estimation; knowledge of basic aerodynamic principles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Strong math skills in linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and coordinate transformation. Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and C/C++ programming. Solid technical communication skills and ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Department of War digital engineering paradigm, flight vehicles, guided munitions, and/or unmanned aerial systems.
  • Master’s degree or doctorate in engineering or physics preferred.
  • Current active Secret or higher level clearance.
  • Familiarity with LQR/LQG, Kalman filtering, and nonlinear control techniques such as NDI and adaptive control.
Pay and Benefits

Pay range: $69,550.00 – $125,725.00. Compensation packages include competitive salary, health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave and retirement benefits.
