Job summary

Noland Health Services, Inc. seeks an Activities Assistant to support residents through scheduled programs, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual activities in line with residents’ interests and abilities.

You will arrange transportation, develop schedules, and assist with crafts and outings, working Tue-Thu 8:00 AM–4:30 PM in the Birmingham area. No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; no experience required.
• Must have current driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Knowledge of Birmingham and surrounding areas.
• Ability to move up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and maintaining an activity schedule.
• Arrange transportation to field trips, appointments, and other facilities when necessary.
• Assist in scheduling activities for residents.
• Visit residents, write letters, run errands, make appointments, etc.
• Encourage and assist residents to participate in activities and provide materials as needed.
• Involve resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident.
• Conduct activities with residents as directed.
• Supervise activities as necessary.
• Make routine visits to residents and assist with crafts and projects.
• Assist in developing volunteer activity assignments.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor, including special projects.

Job description

• Must have current driver's license, an excellent driving record and knowledge of Birmingham and surrounding areas.
• Will transport residents to and from MD appointments and other outings.
• Position will be 8A-4:30 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist in developing and maintaining an activity schedule.
• Arrange transportation to field trips, appointments, and to other facilities when necessary.
• Assist in scheduling activities for residents.
• Assist residents by visiting with them, writing letters, running errands, making appointments, etc., as necessary.
• Encourage and assist residents to participate in activities. Provide materials as necessary.
• Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident.
• Conduct activities with residents as directed.
• Supervise activities as necessary.
• Make routine visits to residents and provide assistance with crafts, projects, etc. as necessary.
• Assist in developing volunteer activity assignments.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor, including any special projects.

Education and Experience

Physical Requirements For Essential Job Functions

• Must be able to move consistently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the work day.
• Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry up to 50 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance.
• Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day.
• Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
