John 3:16 Mission, Inc. is seeking a part-time Shelter/Recovery Program Associate to oversee nightly shelter operations and guest services. The role emphasizes safety, hospitality, and Christ-centered care for guests and recovery students.

The position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent), an interest in homeless issues, reliable transportation, and a valid driver's license. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Required background check and drug screening.
  • Experience or interest in homeless issues including substance abuse, mental health challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee adherence to the shelters' guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Facilitate nightly shelter routine: check-in/out, chapel, dinner, bed list, linens, and new guest intakes; overnight guest wake-up and exit after breakfast.
  • Make scheduled announcements.
  • Ensure safety of shelter guests, recovery students, and volunteers through patrols.
  • Connect resources to guests at appropriate times (including medicine and mail).
  • Monitor nightly activities and establish healthy boundaries with guests and recovery students.
  • Assess possible case management needs and input data.
  • Attend Mission meetings and functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned on shift.

Job description

Job Statement: The purpose for the position is to execute the processes, procedures, functions, tasks, and responsibilities required to facilitate the events and resources provided by John 3:16 Mission. Approach tasks with a mindset of safety for self, staff, guests, and shelter. Help to develop a culture of peace and Christlikeness. A dedication and ability to calm and de-escalate self, team, and those we serve. Ensure a safe, orderly, and Christ centered atmosphere by offering loving hospitality to those we serve. In accordance with the gospel of Jesus Christ, demonstrate God's love to every guest, recovery student, or any person entering the doors of John 3:16 Mission.

Duties:
  • Oversee the adherence to the established guidelines, policies, and procedures of the men's shelter and recovery program.
  • Facilitate the nightly routine of the Shelter, including the check-in/checkout process, chapel, dinner, bed list, scrubs, towels, blankets, and new guest intakes. The overnight shift will include guest wake-up and the exit of guests from the facility after breakfast.
  • Make scheduled announcements
  • Responsible for the safety of shelter guests, recovery students, and volunteers by patrolling the building and grounds.
  • Connect resources (including medicine and mail) to the recovery students and guests at the appropriate times.
  • Monitor the nightly activities of the guests and recovery students.
  • Establish and hold healthy boundaries with guests and recovery students.
  • Assess the possible case management needs of the guests and report the data.

Qualifications:
  • Have a high school diploma; prefer two years of college (or equivalent).
  • Have experience or an interest in homeless issues including substance abuse, mental health challenges, etc.
  • Background in Mission work preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license.
  • Proficient computer skills including basic Microsoft applications.
  • Required background check and drug screening.
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must possess the spiritual and emotional maturity needed to lead, minister, and perform the duties assigned in the job description.
