Job summary

Potbelly Sandwich Works is hiring for a friendly customer-facing Associate to join our fast-paced team in Illinois. You’ll provide quick, accurate service across stations, ensuring a quality product in a clean, inviting setting.

Responsibilities include handling orders, maintaining safety standards, restocking, and assisting customers with inquiries while working collaboratively with the team. Applicants must be 16+, with strong communication and allergen awareness.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Friendly, customer-first mindset with ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a bustling kitchen environment (knife skills are a plus).
• Able to manage potential allergens (peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, shellfish).
• Must be a team player.
• Able to stand/walk a minimum of 3 hours per shift; able to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
• Illinois applicants must become food safety certified within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Work multiple stations (load, dress, shakes, cash, prep, front) as directed by a Shift Leader or Manager.
• Comply with health and safety standards for food, cleanliness and safety.
• Restock food line, chips and cooler.
• Prepare quality finished products (sandwiches, salads, soups, cookies, ice cream, etc.).
• If 18 or older, use of the automatic slicer to prep food items.
• Clean tables, counters, floors, bathrooms, kitchen and utensils; take out trash.
• Operate cash register: handle, balance and follow cash handling procedures.
• Effectively handle customer complaints/issues.
• Take delivery/catering/pickup orders over the phone.
• Other duties as assigned.
