Job summary

Fresno Chaffee Zoo Corporation is seeking an entry-level seasonal Guest Services Associate to support operations at the ticket booths and exhibits. You will handle cash/credit transactions, promote memberships and tickets, and provide guests with information about Zoo events and services in a fast-paced setting.

This position runs from September 2026 to January 2027, pays $17.78–$18.66 per hour, and includes benefits such as EAP, 401K, and CA sick time.

Qualifications

• Six months of cash handling and POS experience required.
• Experience in retail, food service, call center, zoo, or aquarium preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal English communications skills required. Bilingual (Spanish or Hmong) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Interact with Zoo guests in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner at all times.
• Complete cash and credit card transactions for Zoo entry fees, animal feedings, and other purchases with accuracy, efficiency, and security.
• Actively promote Zoo Membership sales to guests entering the Zoo.
• Promote Combo tickets to guests entering the Zoo.
• Promote the Change Roundup Program.
• Provide zoo guests with general information about Zoo operations and events.
• Perform cash counts and reconcile cash drawer to ensure the accuracy of daily transactions.
• Maintain cashier workstation in a neat, organized manner at all times.
• Assist guests in the call center with ticket sales, upgrades, and field trips.
• Connect our guests to the mission of the zoo.
• Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in the execution of all assigned responsibilities.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational goals.

General purpose

This position supports Fresno Chaffee Zoo Corporation’s mission to inspire people to care for animals, create connections, build community, and save wildlife by providing excellent guest service through daily operations at the ticket booth, giraffe feeding and stingray bay stations, and special exhibit entrances. This is a seasonal position lasting from September 2026 to January 2027

We are pleased to offer this seasonal part time position an Employee Assistance Program, 401K, Paid CA Sick Time. The pay range for this position is $17.78 - $18.66 per hour. Offers will be based on the successful candidate’s experience.

Essential accountabilities

Education and job Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of six (6) months of cash handling and point-of-sale system experience required.
• Previous experience working in retail, food service, call center, zoo, or aquarium preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal English communications skills required. Bilingual (Spanish or Hmong) communication skills are a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Frequent walking throughout the Zoo campus, typically at least one mile per shift, and standing for the duration of the scheduled shift.
• The employee may be required to bend, stoop, or kneel.
• Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. Color perception is also required.
• Receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone) at normal spea king levels with or without correction.
• Expressing or exchanging ideas through the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken information to others in individual and small group settings.
• Hand and finger dexterity is sufficient for typing and other administrative tasks.
• The employee is regularly required to lift or carry up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This position functions both indoors and outdoors, with possible exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather, Zoo environments and external events
• The employee may be exposed to environmental substances such as dust/dirt from Zoo grounds.
• The position works in close proximity to Zoo animals.
• Regular local travel and occasional out-of-town travel may be required.
• Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
