Job summary

Fresno Chaffee Zoo Corporation seeks a seasonal, part-time cashier for daily ticketing, animal feeding stations, and exhibit entrances. You will handle cash and card transactions, assist guests with tickets and upgrades, and promote memberships and combo tickets.

The role runs September 2026 through January 2027, with benefits including EAP, 401K, and sick time. Strong English communication and cash handling experience are required; bilingual skills (Spanish or Hmong) are a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of cash handling and point-of-sale system experience required.
  • Previous experience in retail, food service, call center, zoo, or aquarium preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with Zoo guests in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner at all times.
  • Performs cash and credit card transactions for Zoo entry fees, animal feedings, and other purchases with accuracy, efficiency, and security.
  • Promotes Zoo Membership sales to guests entering the Zoo.
  • Promotes Combo tickets to guests entering the Zoo.
  • Promotes the Change Roundup Program.
  • Provides zoo guests with general information about Zoo operations and events.
  • Performs cash counts and reconciliation of cash drawer to ensure the accuracy of daily transactions.
  • Maintains cashier workstation in a neat, organized manner.
  • Assist guests in the call center with ticket sales, upgrades, and field trips.
  • Connect our guests to the mission of the zoo.
  • Ensures accuracy and attention to detail in the execution of all assigned responsibilities.

Description
General purpose

This position supports Fresno Chaffee Zoo Corporation’s mission to inspire people to care for animals, create connections, build community, and save wildlife by providing excellent guest service through daily operations at the ticket booth, giraffe feeding and stingray bay stations, and special exhibit entrances. This is a seasonal position lasting from September 2026 to January 2027.

We are pleased to offer this seasonal part timeposition an Employee Assistance Program, 401K, Paid CA Sick Time. The pay range for this position is $17.78 - $18.66 per hour. Offers will be based on the successful candidate’s experience.

Essential accountabilities

  • Previous experience working in retail, food service, call center, zoo, or aquarium preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills required. Bilingual (Spanish or Hmong) communication skills are a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

These are physical and mental requirements of the position as it is typically performed.   • Frequent walking throughout the Zoo campus, typically at least one mile per shift, and standing for the duration of the scheduled shift.
  • The employee may be required to bend, stoop, or kneel.
  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. Color perception is also required.
  • Receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone) at normal spea king levels with or without correction.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas through the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken information to others in individual and small group settings.
  • Hand and finger dexterity is sufficient for typing and other administrative tasks.
  • The employee is regularly required to lift or carry up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position functions both indoors and outdoors, with possible exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather, Zoo environments and external events
  • The employee may be exposed to environmental substances such as dust/dirt from Zoo grounds.
  • The position works in close proximity to Zoo animals.
  • Regular local travel and occasional out-of-town travel may be required.
  • Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
