Job summary

Novartis AG in Durham, NC is seeking a Sr. Manager, Automation – GTx Lead to drive automation strategy and lead a high-performing IT/OT team supporting 24/7 GMP manufacturing.

You will design, implement, and maintain manufacturing automation systems, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Technical Operations to enable compliant, reliable operations and site initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 9+ years in IT/OT and automation.
• Experience with DCS, PLC, SCADA, MES, Historian systems and process equipment for pharma manufacturing.
• Proven ability to design, operate, modify, maintain, and retire computerized systems in a regulated environment.
• Experience leading technical teams in 24/7 manufacturing and cross-functional collaboration.
• Knowledge of FDA regulations, cGMP, health, safety and environmental standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CMMS, Building Management Systems and related digital tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of manufacturing automation systems and process equipment.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation performance, reliability, and innovation.
• Execute site automation strategies aligned with global standards and best practices.
• Own and oversee computerized systems supporting critical manufacturing processes.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of automation engineers for 24/7 operations.
• Establish and improve KPIs to maximize system reliability and operational excellence.
• Own change controls and CAPAs to drive compliance and continuous improvement.
• Lead automation-related deviation investigations and provide SME expertise for root cause analysis.
• Serve as automation SME during regulatory inspections and audits.
• Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Technical Operations on new product introductions and site initiatives.
