Job Overview

Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is hiring a Sustaining Engineer Sr. Staff Systems Engineer (level 6) for the Ground Subsystems Support Contract (GSSC) in Clearfield, UT.

Relocation assistance may be available. Travel required: occasionally (approximately 10% of the time). Clearance required: active DoD Secret at minimum. The role is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

The Sr. Staff Engineer will lead the Remote Visual Assessment (RVA) engineering team in the design, development, and delivery of solutions that meet government requirements. This includes overseeing technical direction, ensuring alignment with contract requirements, managing engineering resources, mitigating technical risks, developing solutions to complex problems, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and government regulations. The engineer will work closely with program managers, technical teams, and government representatives.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 14 years of experience.
  • 12 years of experience with a Master’s degree in STEM; or
  • 10 years of experience with a PhD.
  • U.S. citizenship with an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance and a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • 10 years of experience in an engineering lead or management role.
  • 6 years of experience delivering formal briefings/presentations to senior leadership and serving as the primary focal point to end users.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience designing, operating, integrating, configuring, and maintaining military security systems, networks, radios, and datalinks.
  • Demonstrated history of leading and managing multi‑functional teams.
  • Ability to develop electronic work instructions, safety policies, and quality procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Background in cost/schedule management, especially Earned Value Management.
  • Experience in all stages of the engineering process from proposal through verification testing and troubleshooting.
  • Minuteman III ICBM experience.
  • Hardware integration experience working with cross‑functional groups.
  • Experience sustaining engineering data packages, including specifications, drawings, interface documents.
  • Experience sustaining long‑term service life systems through logistics practices such as component performance monitoring, spares/resource monitoring, analytic forecasting, DMSMS, and alternate component replacement solutions.
  • Knowledge of cyber security requirements and implementation practices.
  • Fundamental understanding of EMI/EMC and HERO provision in system design.
  • Experience applying safety considerations throughout program execution.

Compensation

Primary salary range: $152,900.00 – $229,300.00. Compensation may also include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for certain levels, long‑term incentives.
